Truck songs weather is slipping away. Technically, it’s now The National weather in Texas (finally). And yet, and yet…
It’s all ladies this week. Ladies singing about other ladies. Ladies enduring bad weather. My personal favorite country trope: ladies driving off into the sunset1.
Drive safe.

“Rain In The Rearview” by Anne Wilson
The song is overproduced into oblivion. Truly terrible. Instruments? Oh yeah, they’ve all been completely washed out.
But it’s got that good old “rearview mirror” objective correlative so I can’t resist.
It sounds like a callback to Carrie Underwood’s 2012 single “Blown Away” — both the lyrical bad weather and the sweeping production. Since she explicitly references Underwood in the second verse (“Singing, ‘Jesus, take the wheel,’ now I know what she was feeling”), I’m going to dare to believe this is not an accident.

“Don’t Do It In Texas” by Catie Offerman
Honestly, this song is so good that it’s probably not even a truck song. A little play on George Strait’s “All My Ex’s Live In Texas.”
🚨🚨🚨 Classic country trope alert 🚨🚨🚨 Evocative lists of various U.S. states and cities. Santa Fe, Oklahoma, Aspen, Detroit. That’s Americana, y’all.

Spotted this extremely prime truck specimen in West Texas and was reminded that Internationals are both the best type of truck and also not for driving so much as they are for repairing eternally in your driveway ✨
My all-time favorite truck song right here. For tough girls who travel well.
This post somehow reminds me of Mac Davis’s “Happiness is Lubbock, Texas, in My Rearview Mirror.” Even though Mac Davis has passed and wasn’t a woman. 🙂
